WATERFORD-HALFMOON SCHOOL BOARD ACTION ITEMS: Approved a surprise agreement with Superintendent Ward Patton under which he would retire effective June 30, in exchange for a one-time lump-sum settlement of $30,000. Patton's current contract was not due to expire until June 30, 1999, and he had been seeking a one-year extension. The board also agreed to continue to pay his health insurance. Patton has been superintendent for 16 years. Lucy Breyer, Finance Committee chair, presented the proposed 1998-99 budget of $10,400,511, representing an increase of $318,887.
