Green shows there's life in his bat; New Met 6-for-8, homers twice in doubleheader.(Sports)

NEW YORK - The few thousand fans that stuck around for the second game of Wednesday's doubleheader at Shea Stadium clapped as loudly as they could when Carlos Beltran finally appeared from the dugout. The last time anyone had spotted Beltran was Saturday, the night he crashed into a chain-link fence at Minute Maid Park, and it was a relief to see him upright again.

But on a truly glorious afternoon for the Mets, who swept their National League East nemesis by the score of 4-1 in the first game and 8-0 in the second, the loudest cheers were saved for Beltran's newest teammate, Shawn Green. …
